LET'S TALK ABOUT SCRUB!

Here comes my favorite part! SCRUB!!
In this segment, I'm going to include whole body scrub which consist of:
- Body scrub
- Lip scrub
- Facial scrub
You're not going to focus just on the cleanliness of your face isn't it? Nooo.... Don't tell me you never pamper your body the way you pamper your face. NO! BODY AND LIPS ARE IMPORTANT TOO SWEETHEART ;')
Body and lips are second most important assets that we need to take care as much as our face. PIMPLES grow on your body too if you never notice this plus dry and chappy lips are never okay.
So first, let me enlighten all of you about BODY SCRUB,
All you need are salt and sugar and poof! your scrub is ready to clean your body :)
Salt and sugar scrubs are one of easiest home treatments that truly deliver. Not only is slathering sugar and oil all over your body wickedly pleasant, but the exfoliating factor leaves skin refreshed, vibrant, and as soft as a certain anatomical part of an infant.
You get to customize your ingredients, be assured that there are no funky synthetic chemicals involved, skip the excess packaging, and have some glowing skin to show for your not-so-much efforts. Here are some formulas to get you started.
1. Banana Sugar Body Scrub
When the bananas are starting to brown, grab those beauties and put them to use. This one skips the oil and relies purely on the benefit of banana and the gently abrasive sugar.
- 1 ripe banana
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- ¼ teaspoon pure vanilla extract or your favorite essential oil (optional)
Smash ingredients together with a fork into a chunky goop. Don't over-mash or it will become too thin. If you want a banana scrub for your face, reserve some of the banana and mash it separately without sugar. In the shower, pat the sugar mixture and gently massage over your body. For your face, gently massage plain banana there, avoiding the eye area. Rinse off with warm water.
2. Rosemary Lemon Salt Scrub
For sporty women, mixing savory herbs with lemon and salt is a super treat for the skin. (If you don't use it all while cooking, that is.) Rosemary is especially invigorating, but this Lemon and Thyme Salt Scrub from Food + Words is really quite splendid.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup salt
- 1/2 cup pure organic almond oil
- the zest of one lemon
- 2 teaspoons fresh thyme, leaves stripped from the stems
DIRECTIONS:
- Pour the salt into a clean, sterilized container with a tight-fitting lid.
- If you're using plain salt, add the lemon zest and thyme.
- Pour the almond oil over top and screw the lid on tightly.
- To use, just give the jar a stir to mix the oil and salt together, and scrub away in the shower!
- The scrub will keep for up to 6 months stored in an airtight container at room temperature.
This super simple (as the name implies) from Glue & Glitter couldn't be easier or peasier: Easy Peasy Sugar Scrub.
Ingredients:
- 3 parts coarse sugar
- 1 part olive oil
- 15-20 drops of your favorite essential oil or oil blend
4. Tomato Sugar Scrub
Another one from Glue & Glitter (where everyone must have sparkling hands and smooth skin), this one is amazing! It employs a slice of tomato as a buffer, along with all the nutrients as well. Here's the how-to: Tomato Facial Scrub.

5. Vanilla Coconut Brown Sugar Scrub
Coconut oil is subtly fragrant and slightly miraculous. This one is a super moisturizer, and can practically double as dessert.
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Mix ingredients together. Rub on skin while in the shower, massage, and rinse.
6. Sugary Minty Lip Scrub
For soft lips, this quick treatment is the ultimate treatment to make you a smooth kisser. Blend a bit jojoba or olive oil with caster sugar (also known as superfine sugar; you can also make your own by putting regular granulated sugar in the food processor for a minute) and a touch of peppermint or vanilla extract. Place some of the paste on your lips, massage and lick off.
7. Lavender Salt Scrub
Lavender and salt, together at last. If this vibrant salt scrub from Queenie and the Dew doesn't cure you of dry skin and a blue mood, nothing will: Lavender Salt Scrub.
Ingredients:
- 1. Take 1/2 cup of coarse sea salt
- 2. Pour in 1/3 cup of grapeseed oil (you can also use jojoba, almond or coconut - whatever you like)
- 3. Give it a good stir
- 4. Mix in around 1 tablespoon of dried lavender
- 5. Add 16 drops of lavender essential oil (or more/less depending on how smelly you like it)
- 6. Mix again
- 7. Pot it up, add a pretty label if you like and start scrubbing!
8. Citrus Salt or Sugar Scrub
This will wake you up, great for the morning shower or after sports.
- 1/2 cup sea salt
- 1/2 cup oil of your choice (jojoba, almond, olive, whatever)
- 1 teaspoon citrus zest (lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit or a mix)
Mix ingredients together. Rub on skin while in the shower (avoiding eyes) and rinse off.
Next, let's move to LIPS SCRUB!
Homemade Lip Scrub
I wasn’t going to let a little thing like an allergy stand in my way, so I went on a quest to create my own homemade lip scrub. I looked through my natural ingredient beauty product stash, and grabbed some unrefined, organic coconut oil, the raw and unpasteurized honey, and a few teaspoons of organic sugar cane. I also thought the scrub could benefit with a few drops of essential oils, so I selected peppermint and orange essential oil to help with the task.
Homemade Lip Scrub
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp organic coconut oil
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp honey
- 2-4 drops essential oils (optional)
Combine ingredients in small jar, stir until mixed. Apply a small amount to your finger, and gently rub into lips. Continue rubbing gently for 1 minute, then rinse with warm water.
Apply a layer of coconut oil or homemade lip balm to finish the job, and make your lips kissibly soft!
Store jar in refrigerator for up to a month, and use once per week for optimal results.
About the Ingredients:
Coconut Oil strengthens underlying tissue and removes excessive dead skin cells. It is an antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal, and contains antioxidants that help skin cell regeneration. It is also a beneficial moisturizer.
Organic Sugar Cane is abrasive enough to help remove dead skin cells and other impurities, which aids the coconut oil and honey to moisturize and renew the lips.
Honey is a wonderful skin moisturizer. It’s a natural antioxidant and can prevent skin from premature wrinkling caused from sun damage. It also has antimicrobial properties which promotes healing and prevents against infections.
Essential Oils have numerous and tremendous benefits for many different purposes. I chose to add 2 drops of peppermint essential oil and two drops of orange essential oil for a bright and fragrant lip scrub. Be sure to do research on safety and precautions before using essential oils.
Finally, we reach to our favorite part of all. HOMEMADE FACIAL SCRUB!
Exfoliating is a very important part of any skin care regime. Not only does it slough away dead skin cells, but it also unclogs the oil and dirt that lives in your pores and can cause breakouts. Most store-bought exfoliants contain harsh chemicals and dozens of questionable ingredients that have unknown benefits. Instead of shelling out the money for a store-bought exfoliator, try concocting one of these four homemade exfoliators using ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry.
Basic baking soda scrub
The range of what baking soda can do just seems to be getting wider and wider. It can freshen the air, remove stains, clean showers and sinks, and trigger explosions in science fair volcanoes. Oh yes, we can use it to bake, too. But there is one more non-food-related use to add to baking soda’s resume: face exfoliant. The grains in baking soda are just the right size to act as a gentle exfoliant, and many claim that it has helped clear up acne.
Ingredients:
- Baking soda
- Facial cleanser
- Water
Directions:
- Mix baking soda to your facial cleanser to make it an exfoliating cleanser.
- Optionally you can make a paste of just baking soda and water.
- Gently rub it onto your skin and leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing off.
Nourishing sugar scrub
Granulated sugar is another wonderful, natural exfoliant -- and with all these reports coming out that sugar may be toxic when ingested, I’m thinking we might be better served to use it on the body versus in the body.Mix it with honey, which contains powerful antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, and a little lemon for clarifying purposes, and you have a wonderfully nourishing and effective face scrub.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 tsp. honey
- 1 tsp. raw sugar
- Fresh lemon juice
Directions:
- Combine 1 teaspoon sugar with 1/2 teaspoon honey and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.
- Mix ingredients well.
- If the mixture is a little loose, add a bit more sugar.
Invigorating coffee scrub
Coffee is another fantastic natural exfoliant. It contains caffeic acid, which has anti-inflammatory effects and can boost collagen production. Just as coffee stimulates our body in the morning, it can serve as a skin stimulant as well.
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp of ground coffee
- 1 tbsp of water or olive oil
Directions:
- To make the scrub, combine 1 tablespoon of ground coffee with 1 tablespoon of water or olive oil.
- To make this inexpensive face scrub even more economical, save the wet coffee grounds from your brewed morning coffee and use those.
- If you use olive oil, skip applying a moisturizer afterward, as olive oil will leave your skin super-moisturized.
Side note: Since coffee grinds can clog drains, apply the scrub and buff off the grounds over a plugged sink so that you can wipe them out or use a mesh drain strainer to catch them before they go down your pipes.
Soothing oatmeal scrub
People who use oatmeal as a natural face scrub swear by it, and now I know why. Ground oatmeal not only serves as a wonderful exfoliant, but it also absorbs and removes surface dirt and impurities while leaving your skin nourished and hydrated. It has been known to soothe and heal everything from acne to sunburn to dry, flaky skin. Given its gentle nature, it is also ideal for those with sensitive skin.
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp. ground oatmeal
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1tsp. water or paste
Directions:
- Combine ground oatmeal with salt, which boosts the face treatment's exfoliating properties
- 1 teaspoon of water or olive oil to make it into a paste.
- Gently rub it onto you skin in circular motions, let sit for five to 10 minutes and rinse.
